
Community Wellness Center History
1993 - The Community Wellness Council is established as Taos County’s Maternal & Child Health Council in response to the County Maternal & Child Health Act of the State of New Mexico to reduce infant mortality rates.
1994 - CWC initiates Puentes, a support group for teen mothers to delay a second pregnancy and completes Maternal & Child Health Plan.
1995 - CWC initiates Mujeres en Progreso to address the needs of Spanish-speaking immigrant families.
1998 - Maternal and Child Health Plan Update.
1999 - CWC initiates girltime, an after-school, youth development, pregnancy prevention and summer enrichment program for girls 9-14.
2001 - CWC initiates Peer Health Education in the 7th grade of the Taos Municipal Schools.
2002 - The Community Wellness Center was created in January 2002 as a New Mexico 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
2002- Maternal and Child Health Plan Update completed.
2003 - Community Wellness Center celebrates its 10th Anniversary.
2004 - Community Wellness Center initiates Peer Health Education in the 9th and 11th grades of the Taos Municipal Schools.
2004 - Community Wellness Center becomes Fiscal Agent for Taos C.A.R.E.S. Health Coalition and Clean Air Works For Taos (second-hand smoke prevention & education.).
